Find Your Talent gives children and young people the chance to try out different cultural and creative activities.
It is about helping them to discover new things, to express themselves, to develop a passion and to make the most of their talent. Whether it is music, art, film, theatre, dance, digital media, exploring libraries, museums or heritage, Find Your Talent is for every child and young person, whatever their age and whatever their ability.
The project is being piloted in ten pathfinder areas across England and offers children and young people regular involvement with arts and culture both in and out of school. Find Your Talent is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Department for Children, Schools and Families, Arts Council England and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
The areas - chosen from 141 that applied - are building on existing investment and opportunities currently taking place in their area, as well as developing new projects.
A Young People's National Development Group was established to make sure that young people are at the centre of Find Your Talent, feeding into planning, decision-making and development of its cultural programmes.
The group, made up of 14-25 year olds, with two representatives from each of the ten pathfinder areas, report back to the pathfinders, so that their issues and ideas influence local projects directly. As well as representatives from each area, there are another ten young people from other areas to ensure that there is always an independent, critical eye looking at what is developed and what might be implemented as part of a Find Your Talent scheme.
As well as having an impact at a local level, the young people's voices are heard at a national level. The outcomes and recommendations from the meetings are fed-back at a senior strategic level, with an explanation given to the group about how this information is acted upon.
Chew TV have teamed up with the national pioneers of the project - Creativity Culture & Education (CCE) to record the delivery of this new approach to culturing young talent throughout the whole of the UK. As part of CCEs Find Your Talent programme, Chew TV will be stopping at 10 regions throughout the UK and will be recording the teaching groups and the young people involved. They will be filming how the project creates a visually enthusing, invigorating and inspiring environment for young people and will make a documentary of the Pathfinder projects they have been working on in their communities. Their journey will take them to Bolton, Liverpool, Leicestershire, South Hampshire, Telford, Shepway, Tower Hamlets, Customs House, North Somerset and Leeds.
Telford has already put together a showcase performance for young people, their families and teachers. This free event was a real eye opener for the local community. It took the form of a spectacular stage show with young performers from a variety of cultures putting on displays of music and dance acrobatics and stunt cycling. The response was extremely positive and it is hoped that this inspiring display of multicultural arts will lead to a large number of young people from the area getting involved with the activities and training that is set to follow it.
