The Turning Point: a return to community is a positive, inspiring documentary about our transition to a low-carbon future, exploring the vital role of community in the creation of a life-sustaining society.

This new film is focused around the Findhorn Foundation, a spiritual community, ecovillage and international centre for holistic education in Scotland. A 2006 study revealed that the Foundation has the lowest record of resource use in the industrialised world.

Ways in which this is achieved are   explored in the film, such as: community-owned wind energy production; local egg and cheese production; community supported agriculture; the Living Machine - an ecological sewage treatment plant;  permaculture and a local currency.

Interwoven with footage of community life are interviews with visionary experts in the fields of human ecology and sustainability, such as Richard Heinberg, Rob Hopkins, Joanna Macy and Megan Quinn Bachman. There are also moving insights from Dorothy Maclean, a co-founder of the community.

Presenting relocalisation as an antidote to climate change and dwindling oil and gas supplies, the film shows how a focus on a shift in consciousness underpins the approach of the Findhorn Foundation community. By rediscovering the earth’s sacredness and working co-operatively to implement a new plan of how to live together on this planet, the community is pioneering a more resilient, nourishing way of life.

With innovative ideas, laughter and a worthy soundtrack from Findhorn-based musicians, The Turning Point is a film to get people excited about helping their communities to thrive in changing times.
